                            Research

With a goal of making a documentary, research is a key factor into accomplishing tasks successfully. It will give me structure, knowledge and the ability to create unique content. I was able to gain inspiration through watching youtube videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sejkUctKRWs

I massively enjoyed watching this video, i feel it is most similar to the style i would like to film in so gave me a good concept of aesthetically how i would like mine to look, although through out mine it will also be other peoples opinions and stories not just my own.

This video has inspired me massively on how to structure and present my questions when doing my interviews, it has also given me good questions that i would like to apply into my own documentary. It was a relaxing yet educational video, this influenced me to pursue a more laid back style of film.

I really enjoyed watching YouTube videos because it is all different opinions and views. Each person has a different connection with music, its refreshing to hear, this is what I want to include in my documentary, personal experiences and Stories of their own.

Reading articles:

https://parentsamurai.com/how-does-music-affect-teenagers-behavior-and-emotions/

This article was an interesting read, this is due to its creators being a married couple that have two teens of their own. You get to hear an outsiders point of view on how music influences teens. As a teen myself sometimes its important to take a step back and hear a parent speak about the impact music has had. After reading this i now feel that its important to interview someone who isn't a teen or of the younger generation.

Articles like this one are always important to include, this is due to its simplicity and truthfulness. This article uses many studies to give statements which i need to include within my documentary at certain points.

As important it is to hear the positives about music, there is also another side which doesn't get spoken about as much, this blog shows that side. Its important to be honest and not shy away from even if its not your personal opinion. It could be a good idea to listen to someone who has had a bad experience with music, this could be interesting to include within my Documentary.

Reading articles is a lot more informative in an educational way. They are based off studies and statistics. This could influence me to try and do my own study that I can include into the documentary.

and watching TED talks:

Watching TED talk videos are bound to inspire, professional speakers put together a speech using powerful examples and stories. The videos i linked above are a perfect example of that. This motivated me and inspired me to create a powerful documentary that is hard hitting and memorable, as well as successfully getting points across.

After having done lots of research on documentaries i am now able to set myself plans of the goals i'd like to accomplish and key points i'd like to include.

-How music makes you feel

-The power music holds

-Positives of music

-Are there any negatives?

-Does it create memories?

Interview research

linked down below are some website articles giving advice on informal interviews, this will help me in the future with how to prepare and construct a good and thorough interview.

https://www.themuse.com/advice/3-steps-to-a-perfect-informational-interview

This article is a three way step advise of how too perfect an information interview, this was an easy read as it is bullet points and can be read on the go or just before to remind you of the important steps.

https://hbr.org/2016/02/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-an-informational-interview

Reading this article is very informative however is it a long read, there are many paragraphs so in preparation is great and was very useful to me. there are many steps that i will use and follow when i do my own interviews.

https://www.desktop-documentaries.com/interviewing-tips.html

I enjoyed reading this article as is was all documentary focused, this was the first advise i took in when it cam to creating a documentary. I felt that this was so useful and I went back to it multiple times.

https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/developing-questions-during-documentary-interviews/

I stared to mainly look at articles that interview advise was focused on filming and documentaries as this was aimed at what information i needed to know and aply to my own way of working

- Be prepared

- Choose questions wisely (relevancy to topic)

- Have a structure

- Take notes and listen carefully

- Be willing to go off script (if its appropriate to context)

Qualities of a good interview

- Conversational skills

- Friendly demeanour

- Able to control emotions

why interview planning is important

A huge section of my documentary is going to be interviews or conversations between myself and production students, for a smooth running conversation i will need to be prepared with what questions i feel will suit and be relevant to the documentary.

to help me i have been doing research and watching videos first hand to see how to present myself and control the conversation in a positive way.
